In the era of communication technologies 3G tech is very known technology, which played very vital role in the current decade of current century, now this technology is getting improvement very steady and slowly and the new names of this baby are 4g, 5g etc, in South Asia as well as Europe, this technology spread very quick, but very little number of consumers know that what is 3g, mostly consume rely on information that it is matter of speed, but this tech is more than this, so what is 3g technology and why it is needed, here is answer.
3G technology is basically for cellular phones where 3G means third generation mobile phones.
3G technology is one of the progresses made in the field of communication and technology. 3G is upgraded of 2G mobiles, which are also known as GSM mobiles. However, 3G technologies are supported only by mobiles based on the 3G system. 3G technologies can be defined as any technology, which fulfills the standards set by International Mobile Telecommunication also known IMT-2000 and support various applications, including voice, the internet, mobile TV and video with single mobile phone. 3G technology according to IMT-2000m should be able to support speed at least 200kbps.
History:
Like every technology, 3G technology was also devised for the research and academic purpose. The project was initiated in 1992, and it was approved in 1999 by ITU. In this project 2Gtechnology was altered and upgraded to 3G technology. 3G technology based cellular communication was first launched by NIT DoCoMo in October 2001 in Japan. However, in Europe, it was launched by Telenorin December 2001. The setback company has to face was due to lack of customers as there are limited number of 3G based mobile phones are available. However, according to statistics 6.7% of mobile users have switched to 3G technology. However, this ratio is up to 70% in countries like Japan and Korea where 3G technology was introduced initially.
The terminology of mobile broadband also comes from 3G, this catchy term attract the mobile users and USB modem were introduce to avail these services.
If we do some comparison, 3G tech spread little bit slowly, frequencies were different from 2G, that was the main cause of spreading slowly across the globe and the operators faced new enhancement in their networks as well as license & costing issues, the major difficulty of UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) installations with up gradation almost all towers in the network.
Features of 3G Technology:
3G technology has changed the face of communication all over the world. People can transfer data with ease and in no time. It has helped cellular companies to launch a number of services without any difficulty. Now mobile phone is not considered as just a tool for making calls and SMS exchange, rather it has become a source of communication, education and amusement due to efficient 3G technology.

Data Transfer:
There are no limits defined for data transfer with 3G technology. However, IMT-2000 has defined that it should be able to provide the data transfer rates of 2Mbps at least. Higher the data transfer rate is offered by cellular companies; higher is the efficiency of mobiles and mobile communication.
Security:
3G technology promised better security than 2 G mobile communication. In 3G technology-based communication they have used KASUMI Block crypto and User Equipment so that user can connect to authentic network. It helps to transfer data with more secure parameters. Also, 3G based communication offer end-to-end security, which allows secure communication.
Significance of 3G mobile:
For advance features like Bluetooth’s communication and the Internet browsing high level technologies are required like 3G technology. With 3G technology-based mobile, people can enjoy data transfer at high speed. It also enables them to enjoy internet access with help of their mobiles. Likewise, it also facilitates users to exchange data like text, images, and videos along with internet access.
Applications Supported by 3G Technology:
3G technology has enabled cellular companies to initiate a number of applications for their mobile users, which has brought huge business to these companies. These applications include, Video Conference, Video on demand, Mobile TV, GPS or location-based services, etc.
3G technology is the hype of time and more and more people are adapting this innovation every day.
In India & China which are the big consumer of 3G services where it is being offered by many telecom giants like Airtel, MTNL and BSNL in india and China Mobile and China Telecom in China, but not on all handsets, HSPA and WCDMA are the only offer with 3G capability, if you are looking for higher speed then it would be better to go to the HSPA sets because they have good experience of 3G and better in speed comparison.
